EXT. MARSH - DAY
ANNE is holding a scythe ready to swing.
ANNE
HEY BATTER BATTER BATTER!
Sprig is standing where a pitcher would stand, holding a large wart-a-melon. He grunts as he throws it toward Anne. The melon sails toward Anne, who swings at it. She whiffs and the scythe accidentally flies out of her hand.
The scythe helicopters over Sprig’s head, just barely missing him and sails into the woods. Sprig looks at his hat, which is now cut in two. Pause.
SPRIG
Go again?!
ANNE
You know it!
EXT. FOREST - MOMENTS LATER
Anne and Sprig head off to go find the scythe, which is sticking out of a tree deep in the woods. Anne reaches towards it and suddenly stops. We hear grunting and squealing in the distance.
ANNE
Sh! Do you hear something?
SPRIG
Just the usual forest ambience!
ANNE
No, listen! It sounds like something’s in trouble!
They run into a clearing to find a LARGE FURRY CATERPILLAR (BLACK, WITH WHITE MARKINGS)its hindquarters stuck in the deep mud. A few giant wasps circle overhead. The caterpillar squeals and tries to struggle out of the mud again, but it’s completely stuck.
ANNE (CONT’D) (GASP)
Ohmygosh! She’s in trouble! We have to save her!
SPRIG
Right behind ya!
Anne jumps into the mud with the caterpillar and pulls it free. Sprig shoots at the wasps with his sling shot, stunning them. Anne and Sprig run out of the clearing, caterpillar in tow.
ANNE
You’re safe now little fella-
Anne looks into the caterpillar’s face and SQUEALS with delight.
ANNE (CONT’D)
EEEEEE!
SPRIG
What’s wrong? Did you get stung? We’ll have to amputate!
ANNE
No, this caterpillar looks EXACTLY like my cat Domino from back home!
Anne holds up her phone to compare the creature to a picture of her cat Domino. They have very similar markings. The caterpillar purrs and meeps with delight.
ANNE (CONT’D)
Let’s take her home with us!
SPRIG
I don’t know, Anne... This land of ours is full of some pretty weird critters. Maybe we should do some research first!
Anne puts the caterpillar in Sprig’s face and it licks him affectionately.
