The Owl House Storyboard Exercise

INT. OWL HOUSE - DARK ROOM - DAY

There’s a FLASH OF LIGHT! And then darkness.

Luz stumbles through an ORNATE DOOR, disoriented. She’s in some kind of cluttered dark room. She stumbles around for the light. - FLICK!

As soon as she turns on the lights she SCREAMS! The room is filled with bizarre shit! Heads in jars! Severed-but-still- moving limbs! Chained beasts! It’s horrifying! She runs back to the door she came through but IT WON’T BUDGE!

LUZ
Stupid door!!

A SLIMY MULTI-EYED MONSTER falls on her head and starts nibbling!

Luz SCREAMS and tears the monster off. She runs out of a door on the other side of the room and BURSTS outside to--

EXT. OWL HOUSE - DAY

Luz continues running until she screeches to a halt at the edge of a cliff.

She sees boiling waters, strange creatures on the shore and in the air, and in the distance a STRANGE and very NON-EARTH LIKE CITY.

LUZ
(whispering) Have I finally gone crazy?

An old woman appears next to Luz.

EDA
(also whispering) Yes you have.

Luz turns around and SHRIEKS! The old woman is TALL and IMPOSING with pointy ears and sharp teeth! There’s some kind of UGLY CAT (King) perched on her shoulder. She begins poking Luz with her staff, driving her towards the cliff’s edge.

EDA (CONT’D)
Who are you?! How did you find this place?! Are you here to steal my secrets?

LUZ
I’m Luz! I dunno! And-- AAHHH!

Luz walks off the edge of the cliff. Her scream trails off. The old woman looks over the edge then at King.

EDA
Well, that was fun.

King makes a face of disapproval.

EDA (CONT’D)
Oh, arlright, alright.

She raises her OWL STAFF and makes a circle in the air!
Cut to Luz’s SCREAMING FACE.

LUZ
AAAHHHH! --- OOF!

Luz stops in midair. Pull out camera to reveal Luz hovering in mid-air, her nose inches from the dangerously spiky rocks beneath her. A glowing halo shines around her waist.

She’s pulled up into the air and back on the cliff’s edge to safety.

LUZ (CONT’D)
(Shocked) W-was that magic? Can you do MAGIC?!

EDA
HA! Of course I can! I am EDA THE OWL LADY! The most POWERFUL WITCH on the BOILING ISLES! --

King pulls at her ear.

EDA (CONT’D)
AGH! And this is my roommate, King.

King waves cutely.

Luz stares at them for a beat.

LUZ
Okay. I’m going to faint now.

And Luz faints.

CUT TO BLACK.
