On January 30, 1945, 10614 people boarded a refugee ship called the Wilhelm Gustloff to escape from Gotenhafen Portland to Kiel Germany. But at 9:12 p. m., just 20 miles of the coast of Poland, and 9 hours after departing. A Russian Submarine called S-13 lead by Alexander Marinesko, fired 3 torpedoes on the Gustloff's port side and sank in 50 minutes. For the 10614 people on board, only 996 survived while 9618 of them died, and that makes it THE WORLD'S WORST MARITIME DISASTER (6 times deadlier than the Titanic.)
